A day in the life of…..a Chartered Surveyor
September 2024Hi, I’m Anneka Wilks, MRICS and I’d like to tell you a little about my job as an Associate Director for GJS Dillon.
I have over 15 years’ experience working in the commercial property market. I started my career as a trainee property professional and undertook a distance learning degree course in Estate Management, while working full-time (so not the traditional route).
I specialise in commercial valuations, as well as rent review and lease renewal reports and negotiations. I have also dealt with sales and lettings, property management. There isn’t such a thing as a ‘typical week!
Many people think I only visit properties in the Worcestershire area. GJS Dillon’s office is based there, but in fact my job role takes me all over the place. For instance last week I carried out a valuation for a SIPP in Shrewsbury on a listed building, a rent review of an industrial/warehouse unit in Hereford and an inheritance tax valuation on an office in Stratford upon Avon, so I get to see some really great places.
As a Chartered Surveyor I work with a variety of clients from solicitors and accountants to banks and lending institutions, local councils and obviously private clients tracking their investments.
As a business we track local commercial comparable information and have a detailed database of lease and rent review information, which enables us to provide a bespoke service to lending institutions, developers, landlords, tenants and individuals. We take pride in delivering comprehensive reports that also contain our valuation methodology and market conditions which are turned around within 7 working days from inspection.
GJS Dillon is a great place to work and I really enjoy my job as a Chartered Surveyor as it is very rewarding to know that my role has an impact on ensuring people get the best value for money and the best investment for their future.
